December and January

There will be no book club books for the month of December and January.  I don't want to stress people out. I know some of us have finals, family trips, etc, etc. Enjoy your holidays and be ready to come back in February committed and ready to pick some new books!

P.S Think of some books you want to read. I don't want us to run out of steam. Also, if you want (but I encourage) try to catch up on some old books that you might not have read. Book club isn't that awesome if we can't have good discussions.

November: Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

I am posting this a bit early, but if I don't do it now, it might be mid-November before I remember! Our book for November is Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. It is historical fiction. I have heard great things about this book and the subject interested me. I hope it isn't too heavy to read and that it doesn't suck!

Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin

Ladies! Don't be worried this wasn't a book that everyone had to read. However, I know that some of the girls in the book club have just finished reading it. Marissa and I were having a really good discussion on it and thought that we'd put it on the blog so that we can hear other's thoughts. Did you like it? Did you hate it? Does anyone care??

Again, don't freak out. This wasn't a book club mandate. LOL just post some thoughts if you've read it. (if you want)

The book for October is I Don't Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say. Maybe we can all go see the movie after we read it???

These is My Words

I loved loved loved this book. I think it's quite possibly one of the best love stories I have ever read. At first the character's writing style gave me a little bit of a headache so I appreciate that it improved throughout the book. I think what I loved most about it is that I felt like the love overflowed within each character. There was love between the siblings, between the friends, between the lovers and it all felt so real. I never felt like one story was too overdone or it wasn't believable. I'll admit, I cried at the end. I was so sad when he died especially when he was talking to his first daughter. I couldn't imagine being her and saying something like you're not my real dad and then him dying. I would be scarred. I think the ending to that story was my least favorite. She just ran off?? We don't know what really happened to her. Even though the ending was sad I think it was a great ending. I didn't feel like she would die unhappy, I felt like she would die thinking how lucky she was to have been in love so deeply and purely. I loved the storyline of her book and how he kept it all those years in his saddlebag. I really don't have anything bad to say about this book, so I'll let the rest of you say how you felt.

August

Okay for august let's read Unbroken by Laura hillenbrand. I wanted a light hearted one but sometimes those are dirty so I didn't want to risk it. This gets rave reviews so I hope you enjoy it.

Janelle's Thoughts

I was told by Natalia the Captain of this book club that I need to write about the book I picked. I totally agree with her. We have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks and not near my computer. SO I am finally writing my thoughts. I really enjoyed the book. I was so curious to what was going to happen that I did not put the book down. I agree that it was hard to get into but once things got rolling it was good. I also cried because I felt to bad for the main girl. I actually wanted her and Dante together in the end. I really liked how she never could have children again so the young couple could fall in love. Over all I would recommend this to anyone.

Mermaid garden

I am doing this on iPad as I feed baby so it may be a bit shorthand. I liked the book but thought it took a while to et into it. I liked how I started to piece things together. In thought the writing was okay. Overall I give it a four stars and it was something different for me so I enjoyed that! Mmm not much else to say except I cried bc I felt so bad for her. Kind of a tragic type love story. She seemed lime a fighterthough! Excited for july book.

*~*July's Book*~*

These is my words
By: Nancy E Turner

Many people have suggested this book to me and I have been wanting to read it. When I went to pick it up at Barnes and Noble today the employee there told me it is difficult to get because it is usually sold out so I apologize in advance if you can't get your hands on a copy right away. It is a fictional book based on an actual diary, and it is a series but this book stands on its own too.

I would love to get together in July. We have a family reunion the 14-17 so we can come a little early if others will be in town then too.

Enjoy

XOXO
Carrie

It wasn't that bad!

So I happened to like The Tower, The Zoo, and The Tortoise by Julia Stuart. I was a little nervous to actually start reading it because I let Janelle talk to me about it before I started and she wasn't loving it. I think it tainted my expectations. I actually appreciated it though because it made my expectations more realistic so I wasn't disappointed.

The story started good and ended good for me. I could have done without the middle section. There wasn't a point to it really. Although the main characters were Hebe and Balthazar I was more into all the other little love stories throughout the book. I would say that the main theme of this book is that love prevails because everyone ends up happy in the end. My favorite characters were Valerie Jennings and her lover. Their story was the cutest. I was a little disappointed how the other wrapped up the storyline of the dead son. She had me hooked on it the entire book and then the end was like ...and Balthazar cried and he cried a lot and it's all good now. I was kind of like really, that's it.

I would give this book 2.5 out of 5. It just took a while to get to the point.
