Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin

Ladies! Don't be worried this wasn't a book that everyone had to read. However, I know that some of the girls in the book club have just finished reading it. Marissa and I were having a really good discussion on it and thought that we'd put it on the blog so that we can hear other's thoughts. Did you like it? Did you hate it? Does anyone care??

Again, don't freak out. This wasn't a book club mandate. LOL just post some thoughts if you've read it. (if you want)

  1. I'll start. I love Emily Giffin but I didn't love this book. I thought it was good but I have a hard time with books where adultery is involved. I don't care how bored the husband was I didn't think there was any real reason to cheat. I almost felt bad for the woman he cheated with because I felt he just used and abused her. Although she didn't officially take him back in the end I still felt like he got off to easy. So, after he slept around now he realizes how much he loves his wife? What if she would have never found out? Would he have stopped sleeping with her? Miss made a good point about not turning into the crazy housewife who gets stuck on what snacks kids take to preschool but I just still don't think that was enough reason for him to be bored. I'll probably regret this when I have my own kids but I think stay at home moms get the short end of the stick sometimes. I think their husbands get bored and think they can do whatever they want. DON'T HATE ME. I just want to read a book where the stay at home mom is happy, and the husband loves her just as much always. I don't want to read books where the husband feels like he is better or more interesting than his wife because he leaves the house everyday. That's the feeling I got from him.

  2. While I was reading this book I hated it. It kind of hit home for me because the husband was a doctor and always busy and i know that is going to happen in my marriage. She trusted him so much that when he came home late she did not even think twice about it. I think the husband knew that and so when he decided to hang out with the mistress he could get away with it because he always called home and said he was running late. That part really made me sick. I like how the wife could tell something was off with her husband and marriage. I do think he cheated because he felt bad for the woman and her son and knew his family was going to be ok because of him. Their marriage totally lacked any communication. They did not talk and enjoy little moments together. It was hard for me to enjoy the book because it was about cheating and it was so real. It was a very honest and real story-that is the only part I like. THe author captured the realness of the situation so well. I hated how the husband got a baby sitter the weekend his wife went out of town and hung out with the mistress and her son. He chose them over his kids and that irked me. Thats when I hated him. The book just ended and i did not like that. they talked and it was over. I didnt need a happily ever after but maybe show how they were working on it. So Hated it while i was reading it but enjoy analyzing it.

  3. K so for my birthday which was the 15thhouse of september valerie bird got me the entire emily giffen series. These books are great and so far I have only read something borrowed and something blue, im currently reading baby proof so I haven't read heart of the matter. Emilys style of writing is amazingly real and I have to applaud the casting crew of something borrowed the movie because I read these books and think of kate hudson as darcy the entire time! Its amazing how identical in personality they are! Despite my girlfriends opinions jay and natalia I am going to read this book. Love the book club! And I started reading unbroken but its a little too sad for postpardum self. I hold my baby and think how can anybody be so mean to someones baby! Its crazy I now look at everyone as someones baby! Yay im a little too sensitive for this book right now! That could explain why I bawled when darcy had her twins;)
