November: Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

I am posting this a bit early, but if I don't do it now, it might be mid-November before I remember! Our book for November is Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. It is historical fiction. I have heard great things about this book and the subject interested me. I hope it isn't too heavy to read and that it doesn't suck!

  1. Just wanted to drop a line or two about Sarah's Key. I found this story sad and intrguing. I really had no idea that while German Jews were being rounded up in Germany that this extended into France to French citizens. It was apalling to read. It was such a sad story. I enjoyed being on the journey with Julia as she disected and found more about Sarah's life. I enjoyed reading from Sarah's point of view more because there was no guessing or assuming at her emotions and how she felt about what was happening to her. I noticed Sarah's Key at the Redbox and am looking forward to watching it.

  2. So I read Sarah's Key a while ago and wasn't in love with the book but i did love the history. Like Megan said, I can't believe that France would do that to it's own citizens. I am actually interested in looking into some history books just to learn more about it. It was a sad story and doesn't really end well for anyone. I feel bad that her husband would not stop having the affair and that when she cried that night in the bathroom he didn't come to her. I still don't understand why he was so set on that abortion. I think that was just a cop-out excuse to get divorced. I feel so sad for that little girl. Will she ever have a relationship with her dad? Lastly, I watched the movie over the weekend. It was amazing! It made me like the book even more.

  3. I saw the movie too. Glad I had read the book before I saw it, it gave more insight to the feelings the characters were having.
